Annual Meeting Announcement & Registration: April 11
 
Trainriders Northeast is pleased to announce its 18th Annual Meeting for Tuesday April 11th, at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland from 5PM to 9:00PM. Two round trip tickets on the Downeaster, overnight accomodations at the Eastland Park Hotel with dinner and breakfast included, and two round trip tickets on the Bay Ferry CAT to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.  We are working on overnight accomodations in Yarmouth but can't promise anything just yet.  Total value over $800.  Tickets will be $20 each, 6 for $100.

Mark MacDonald is President and Chief Executive Officer of Bay Ferries Limited, Northumberland Ferries Limited and the associated holding company NFL Holdings Ltd.

Mark studied engineering and law at Dalhousie University.  He was a partner in eastern Canada’s largest law firm from 1986 until January 2003, where his practice concentrated on shipping and transportation, energy and construction.  He was appointed Queens Counsel in 1998.

He served as outside legal advisor to Bay Ferries Limited between 1997 and his joining the companies during which he, as outside legal counsel, worked on the company’s acquisition and financing of North America’s first high-speed ferry in 1998 and the new “Cat” ferry in the spring of 2002. He has worked with the City of Portland in recent months to bring about introduction of high speed ferry service to Portland in May of this year. He has also led Bay Ferries’ introduction of high speed ferry service to Trinidad and Tobago (under contract with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago).

Mark was Chair of the Board of the Sacred Heart School of Halifax from 2000 to 2003 and in October, 2005 was appointed a Director of the Halifax Port Authority. He is married to Dr. Joanne MacDonald and has two daughters.

Richard Doyle, New England Regional Director of the Federal Transit Administration will also be speaking on the unparalleled success of the Downeaster and what the FTA's expectations for the future are.

He is responsible for the administration of FTA's capital, operating and planning programs in the six-state New England region and he provides technical assistance to grantees and State, local and private sector officials on a wide range of matters affecting urban and rural transportation. In 1999, he became a member of the Senior Executive Service.  

He joined the USDOT in 1970 as a Transportation Intern and in 1971 began his career with the FTA. He  hen held a series of positions with FTA's Grant Development Office in Washington, DC prior to his transfer to Boston, MA.

Richard Doyle is a graduate of Boston University and received his Master's degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.  He has received numerous performance and honor awards including the Secretary's Gold Medal Award, the Secretary's Meritorious Achievement Award and the Administrator's Superior Achievement Award. In 2000, he received the George Rucker Memorial Award for Legislative Achievement from the Community Transportation Association of America.

The evening will also provide opportunities to mingle with the Transportation Director of the City of Portland, Jeff Monroe, the Executive Director of the NNEPRA, Patricia Douglas, the Executive Director of the Maine Better Transportation Association, Maria Fuentes, top AMTRAK officials and others.
