AMTRAK REAUTHORIZATION PASSES U.S. SENATE

U.S. senate approves S.294 - the Rail Passenger Investment and Improvement Act

On Tuesday, October 30th, the Rail Passenger Investment and Improvement Act was passed by the Senate on a veto-proof 70-22 margin.
Despite several attempts to introduce damaging amendments, such action was unsuccessful and none of the offending legislation was adopted.

House action is expected to take place early in 2008 so Amtrak still doesn't have a clear track for the future.

It would be helpful if you would express your thanks to your Senators for their positive vote and ask your Representative in the House to follow suit ASAP.

Note that our 20 year efforts to promote Regional Rail cooperation have apparently been successful in Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, etc.  However, please note the only two "Nay" votes in the region!
