Double Diget Growth in Maine Eastern's Excursion Service!
The Maine Eastern Railroad, a subsidiary of the Morristown and Erie Railway in New Jersey, announced a 26% increase over 2006 passenger numbers. Final tallies for the 2007 summer/autumn season show that more than 17,000 passengers traveled between Brunswick, Bath, Wiscasset and Rockland. [It is estimated that some 3,000 passengers will enjoy the train during the annual Polar Express and Candy Cane special trips during November and December.]
Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, Gordon Fuller, said the company had made a projection at the end of the 2006 season that it would increase its passenger business by 25% in 2007. Fuller, who was in Maine for the announcement said he is thrilled with the outcome.
[Imagine the passengers they'd carry if the long overdue Downeaster extension to Brunswick was in place...Boston to Brunswick, Bath, Wiscasset and Rockland.]
