JOHN ENGLERT NAMED NNEPRA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
PORTLAND, MAINE - Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA) Chairman Jonathan Carter today announced that John Englert has been named nnepra's Executive Director effective September 16, 2002.
Englert is a 13 year transportation professional. He has held progressive management positions with New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the New York City Transit Authority, MTA Long Island Bus, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), and Amtrak. He has experience in operations, customer service, marketing, technology and logistics within both rail and bus environments.
"John Englert is exceptionally qualified for the position of Executive Director of NNEPRA" said Chairman Carter. "He will assist the Authority in sustaining the present and future Downeaster passenger rail service."
"I am delighted to join the staff of the Authority and the Maine community," commented Englert. "Continuing the innovative work already
underway will be a rewarding undertaking. I look forward to collaborating with the many supporters, stakeholds and communities in making the Downeaster rail service an entegral part of the Northern New England transportation network."
Most recently, John was the Service Manager for Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited, responsible for onboard service and operations for the
Boston-based long distance train product. He was also a Business Development Manager for Amtrak, developing the New England corporate travel market for the launch of the Acela high-speed rail service. He received his BA in Urban Studies from Vassar College.
