AMTRAK'S DOWNEASTER WILL OPERATE ON A LIMITED SCHEDULE MONDAY THRU THURSDAY, MAY 14, 15, 16, 17 AND MAY 21, 22, 23, 24.
On those days, only trains 680 & 682 & 3688 & 4688 will operate southbound.
And on those days, only trains 687 & 3689 & 4689 will operate northbound.
The regular Downeaster schedule will be operated on all other days.
Simply put, on the above dates the regular weekday 5:50AM and 8:00AM trains will leave Portland for Boston making usual stops at usual times
as will the regularly scheduled train (bus) leaving at 8:00PM from Portland and 8:45PM from Dover.
Northbound service will consist of train #687, leaving Boston at 6:20PM making usual stops at usual times. train (bus) 3689 will leave Boston at 11:00PM for Wells, Saco and Portland - while train (bus)4689 will also leave Boston at 11:00PM for Exeter, Durham and Dover.
The limited schedule is necessary for new track and sidings to be installed in preparation for the addition of a 5th Downeaster round trip this summer.
The Rail Authority, Amtrak and track owner, PanAm apologize for the temporary inconvenience, and promise you more trains , increased reliability and shorter travel times in the coming months. All service operates from North Station and there will be no alternate service provided for the cancelled trains. (Concord Trailways will maintain their frequent bus service operating between Boston's South Station and Portland.)
