It's an amazing comeback for 'America's Favorite Train!' June numbers are 94% of June 2019,  which was before the pandemic. The national Amtrak system is averaging up to 70% of pre-pandemic levels.

The high price of gas is likely one of the driving (!) factors. Pent-up desire to travel is another...and, what better place to visit than Vacationland! The advantages of the Downeaster are well established: Five roundtrips daily to and from Boston, affordable tickets, comfortable coaches, tasty food and drinks in the cafe car, and a congenial crew have all helped drive the numbers up.
